This week will begin our unit on states and capitals. The students are expected to know where the state is and the name of it's capital. We will tackle a different section each week for 4 weeks with a final test on all 50 states on the 5th week. This week we will start with the Western states and there will be a test on Friday. In math, the students will continue to work with multiplying fractions. Almost finished! Last week, we started literature circles. The students are reading a book at their reading level and expected to do a different "job" each week with the selected reading. This is done in groups and on Fridays they will meet to share their jobs and talk about what they read. Each job looks at a different aspect of the story such as characters, setting, vocabulary, and summarizing. This is something I enjoy doing but need every student on board or it does not work. Please check in with your child to see how they are doing. Informative writing is our district writing test this trimester and we will be taking that test in the next couple of weeks, so we will be spending a lot of time working on writing in the next couple of weeks. If you have not signed up for conferences please do so soon. Have a great week.
