This week the students will be taking the district writing assessment. Monday we will be reading the articles and planning out the graphic organizer. Then on Tuesday, they will be writing the essay. This will hep me gain insight on what we need to practice and focus on. There will be another test just before the end of the trimester in March. They will continue to practice their battle scenes for the walk through coming up next week. In math, we are still multiplying fractions. Valentine's day is quickly approaching and we will be dedicating a little time to passing out cards if the students want to participate. This is not mandatory. I am asking that no candy be brought in. PLEASE! I will be bringing in a treat instead. The only other rule I have is that they must bring one for everyone if they decide to participate. We will do this at the end of the day on Feb 12. Please let me know if you have any questions. Word of the week is initiative. Hopefully you are seeing some of these at home:) Good luck to everyone in the play!!!! Can't wait to see it!

The students did a great job showing their integrity last week, hopefully you saw a little bit of it at home:) This week we will be focusing on courtesy. Be sure to notice if your child is trying to be courteous. The students will continue to be writing their MLK essays, and last week we spent some extra time working on thesis statements. We will continue to read Indian in the Cupboard, and there will be a bit more focus on the scholastic news and finding main idea. The students will also begin practicing their walk through battle scenes. Again, please be sure they are practicing their parts at home as well. This weeks current event is Guy. Have a spectacular week!
Integrity is the word of the week. It is my goal to expose the students to a new word of the week for the rest of the school year. Not just any words, but words that mean something in life. Words that will help them become better citizens, friends and over all great people. Another goal of mine is to spread kindness and resect for one another, since the world could use a little more of both. I hope to empower the students to become the best form of themselves possible. Sorry for the hippie talk, but feeling empowered in my own life to make a change. As for academics this week, we will be finishing our kangaroo essay, and the students will be writing another one on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr with a partner. In social studies the students will begin to learn about the growing conflicts between the colonies and Great Britain. Please be sure you are helping your child prepare for our upcoming Walk Through the American Revolution. In math, they will be working with a ruler to the 1/8 of an inch and starting dividing fractions. There will be no wordly wise due to the short week, but there will be some review. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs Bachman, Mrs. Balzer, and Mrs. Chincholo for coming in and doing Art Vistas with the kids. This week we have clay planed on Friday. Kade and Charlie are doing their current event. Have an outstanding week!
Wow! What a long week that was! This week the students and I will be writing an informative essay together about Kangaroos. This will be a guided activity, that will help them learn how to organize their essays and use only relevant facts. We will also be continuing to read Indian in the Cupboard. In Social Studies we will continue to learn about the 13 colonies and there will be a test on Friday. Wordly Wise will be lesson 13 and the test will be on Thursday instead of Friday due to the Social Studies test. The students will continue to learn about adding and subtracting fractions for one more week with a final test on Friday. This week's current events will be done by Jadyn, Damian, and Avery D. Have a wonderful week!
Welcome back! I hope that every is well rested and ready to start a new year positive! This week we will be revisiting procedures and working together to better our classroom and ourselves. In math, we will continue with our venture through fractions. This week they will be adding and subtracting numerically. No more pictures, for now. Although, they can use them if it helps. The students will be heading to a new science class starting on Monday, so be sure to ask what they are learning. In Social Studies, we will begin learning about the colonies. They will be comparing contrasting the 13 colonies, preparing to learn how the American Revolution began. I will also be sending home parts for Walk Through the American Revolution on Wednesday. Please help your child prepare for this. If you have trouble getting a costume please see me or email me. I can help. Our performance will be on Feb 11 from 11:30-2:00. It's pretty amazing if you can find the time to make it. I hope you all have a wonderful beginning to 2016!
