Friday, February 8 from 6-8:30 p.m.~ Alta Vista Valentines Dance Monday, February 18-22 ~ Presidents' Break - No School Wow! What a great week we had last week. Now it's time to focus on Walk through the American Revolution. This will be held on Friday, Feb 8th at 11:30 in the makerspace. If your child does not have a costume yet please let me know so I can help them share or use one of the school's costumes. In language arts we will be reading from our storyworks magazine and continuing our opinion essays. Math we are still working on multiplying fractions. In social studies, the students will be exploring the tensions that would lead to the revolution. Science they are with Mrs. Hammer learning about the weather.

With our storyworks we will focus on plot and characterization. We will also be writing an opinion piece on whether or not schools should have assigned seating. Ask your child to see what they have done so far. In Social Studies, the students are working on colonial commercials and there will be a test on Thursday. Science they are with Mrs. Hammer learning about weather. In math we will begin module 4 which is multiplying and dividing fractions. Language Arts
Book Club. Our rotations are finished for this first theme. Our next genre will be historical fiction and our focus will be on the American Revolution. This will go along with our focus on the American Revolution for social studies. We will start our next Book Club rotation after science camp. We are also exploring the concept of inference again this week. Students will also be reading from our Scholastics Storyworks this week. This week, we will also be continuing to work with Nonfiction Signposts from our Notice and Note reading strategies. These strategies will help students with non-fiction comprehension and critical thinking. Math This week, we are FINISHING module 3 with lessons 15 and 16. There will be a review on Thursday and a test on Friday. American Revolution Simulation Students will be taking part in Walk through the American Revolution, a simulation that takes place here at school on February 8 at 11:30 a.m. Students will spend the next few weeks practicing their team's battle scenes at school and preparing props. They will also have their own individual parts to play, which they should memorize at home before performing their SMALL part during the simulation.
